Wayne Heights Animal Hospital opened its doors in July of 1996 with a vision to provide quality veterinary services with care and compassion. This high standard of care got us where we are today. In 2007, Drs. John and Charlene Barnes purchased the facility, and have continued the hospital’s excellent reputation.

Dr John Barnes, Vet at Wayne Heights Animal Hospital in Waynesboro, PA

Dr. John Barnes

Dr. John Barnes graduated from Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine in 1998. From 1998 – 2005, he worked as a veterinarian at a local animal hospital in Hagerstown, MD. Some of Dr. Barnes’ specific areas of interest in veterinary medicine include surgery, dentistry, and veterinary orthopedic manipulation.

Dr. Barnes’ personal interests and hobbies are photography and scuba diving. He resides in Maryland with his wife, six dogs — Billy, J.J., Nibbles, Joey, Bitsy, and Mac — three cats, eleven goats, ducks, guineas, and chickens.

Dr. Charlene Barnes

Dr. Charlene Barnes also attended and graduated from Virginia Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine. During her senior year in veterinary school, Dr. C. Barnes did a six-week project at the Western College of Veterinary Medicine in Saskatchewan, Canada studying dental disease in musk-oxen. She has been a small animal veterinarian since 1997 and has practiced at an all feline animal hospital in Silver Spring, MD. Prior to owning Wayne Heights Animal Hospital, Dr. C. Barnes was practicing at Frederick Emergency Animal Hospital.

Dr. Barnes lives near Wolfsville, MD with her husband, six dogs, three cats, eleven goats, ducks, guineas, and chickens. Dr. C. Barnes’ hobbies include scuba diving, cross-stitch, and spending time with her many pets.

Notice: Temporary Technical Difficulties

We are currently experiencing intermittent issues with our phone lines, computers, and internet connection. While we are open and here to assist you, these technical difficulties may affect our ability to respond promptly.

We appreciate your patience and understanding as we work to resolve the issue. Thank you for bearing with us!

Our office experienced a server crash on 12-31-24 and unfortunately another crash 4-10-25. While back-ups were in place, they were unfortunately corrupted and lost in this crash also. We have lost records between 2021 and 2025 as well as the records from 4-3-25 to 4-17-25.

Please bring any recent receipts or vaccine certificates for your pet to any appointment. If you have a scheduled appointment, please call the office to notify us of the scheduled date and time so we can add you to our schedule as this was also lost. If your pet takes prescription medications, INCLUDING heartworm or flea and tick prevention, bring those medications to your appointment as well with the drug label intact on the medication.

If you are an existing client with a sick pet, please call our office and we will do our best to help you navigate scheduling. We truly appreciate your understanding and patience during this time. Your pet's health remains our priority and we are working diligently to update records as we obtain information.

If you have any inquiries, please call our office at 717-765-9636. If your animal has an online prescription that needs renewed, please allow for at least 7-10 business days for refill requests.
